The Pension Board undertakes investment management for its own and some other organisations' Funds, Endowments or Trusts.

What does the Board provide for funds management?
  • Participation in a well established and tax efficient pool of investments.

  • Experience in investing to achieve returns for charitable funds.

  • An emphasis on the net returns to the investor. There are no establishment or exit fees. Deductions from gross market returns for expenses and tax are kept to a minimum so that net investor returns can be maximised.

  • In depth understanding of the requirements of trustee investment; particularly with an awareness of those ethical issues that can arise in a Christian context.

  • A professional attitude where performance is benchmarked to industry standards, while critical appraisal is applied to industry practices.

  • Openness and transparency in reporting. Reports are the statement of accountability from a trustee perspective.

  • Investment management which is large enough to be effective, yet small enough to be flexible.

  • A personal approach and an understanding of church needs.

  • An established record with external clients.
The Board has produced good returns over a long period, has a record of returns for each asset sector since 1986, and has managed unitised asset sectors since 1994.

What is the investment structure?
The Board is trustee and investment manager for six trusts, and investment manager for other Anglican organisations.

Each trust operates to different asset allocations reflecting different policy and strategy requirements.

The Board appoints an Investment Committee to manage the investment assets.

Trustees make the decisions
Trustees of church trusts wishing to have the Pension Board as their Investment Manager will set their own policy and strategy requirements for the investment of their funds.

Trustees will choose their own asset mix, which is assessed to best achieve their policies. It is possible to invest in an individual asset sector e.g. New Zealand, Australian or Overseas Shares, New Zealand or Overseas Fixed Interest, New Zealand Cash, Forests and Alternative Asserts.

Within an amalgamated and flexible fund like the Board’s investment funds, it is simple for church trustees to change their asset allocations.

Church trustees are welcome to have a copy of the Board’s Statement of Investment Policies and Objectives to see the way in which the Pension Board sets parameters for its investment management.
